About The Strollers Cricket Club
The Strollers are a civil service team, based in the HQ offices of the Department of Health and the Department for Work and Pensions. The Club offers excellent opportunities for cricketers of any standard, and a packed fixture list from April through to September. Our emphasis is on making sure that everyone has a chance to take part and enjoy the day. The finer points of each match are considered over a pint in the bar after the game. Kit is provided so anyone interested in participating only needs to turn up in an outfit that resembles white. The Club plays mainly 40 over Sunday friendly games and in Club Cricket Conference terms we are classed as a weak/medium team. Our home ground is the Civil Service Sports Ground, Chiswick (see further details below), which offers a bar and excellent facilities. The team is an informal one and enthusiasm is valued more than ability. That said, we do take the game seriously and do tend to win a lot more often than we lose. There is usually a game every weekend, from the end of April to the beginning of September. For people who have been away from cricket for a while or who want an occasional game to fill an empty weekend, then the Strollers is the team for you. An additional incentive is the Club's tour in mid-season, where we bask in the glories of the Cheshire countryside. The Club also holds net sessions in the close season. These take place at the MCC Indoor School at Lord's Cricket Ground. The ground is easily accessible by train, tube, bus and car. The nearest mainline rail station to the ground is Barnes Bridge, from which you get to the ground by crossing the river over Barnes Bridge itself and following the signs. Barnes Bridge is about 20 minutes out of Waterloo Station. On the current Sunday timetable, there is one train an hour, which leaves Waterloo at 57 minutes past each hour. The nearest tube station is Turnham Green, which is on the District Line. From there, you would need to catch an E3 bus headed for Chiswick and get off at Staveley Road, which is opposite Riverside Drive. The nearest major road to the ground is the A4, Great West Road. Drivers should make their way to the Hogarth’s Roundabout and take the Chiswick Bridge turning into Burlington Lane. Burlington Lane becomes Alexandra Avenue, and Riverside Drive is a left turn at a traffic light controlled crossroads. Just so you’re sure you’re at the right place, look out for a cemetery opposite the Riverside Drive turning.
Anyone interested in joining the Club and taking part in any of the above should contact Paul Lees on 0207 972 5016 (GTN: 396 25016 or chairman@thestrollers.org.uk).
