General Information about the Nets

2007 Pre-Season Nets Roster

Every year, The Strollers have two rounds of indoor nets at The Indoor School, Lords. Pre-season nets normally run during March and April, and post-season nets during November/December. The precise dates vary each year.

Each net lasts one hour, so it is important that you arrive on time. Allow at least ten minutes to change and get the kit ready. There is a maximum of six per net, and therefore at least 10 minutes batting each.

How to take part

A letter will be circulated approximately 4 weeks before the first net, inviting existing and new members to take part. You will be asked to state your availability for each session. You will be notified of your allocations as soon as possible. A copy of the roster will be placed on the Strollers Website. Nets are only open to members, and a renewal form is provided here.

Cost

You will be charged a subsidised £3.00 per session, which is payable on the night. Cancellations less than 48 hours before the session will still have to be paid for, but at the unsubsidised charge of £5.00.

How to get to Lords

Lords Cricket Ground is in St John's Wood, NW8 8QN.

Lord's Cricket Ground is situated in the St John's Wood area of London (London NW8). It is bordered by St John's Wood Road to the south, Wellington Road to the east, Grove End Road to the west, and Wellington Place to the north. Street parking is strictly limited Monday to Saturday, but is slightly easier on Sundays. Parking in nearby Regents Park is also an option on Sundays. Because of that, the ground is best reached by spectators using public transport via the London Underground or one of several bus services. By rail/tube: The nearest Underground station is St John's Wood on the Jubilee Line (five minutes walk north of the ground). It is also possible to go on the Bakerloo Line to Warwick Avenue or Maida Vale, though this involves a longer walk from the west.

The nearest mainline railway station is Marylebone - from where a short walk east to Dorset Square will allow you to take buses 13, 82, 113, 139, 189 or 274 north to the ground.

By bus: Buses 13, 82 and 113 stop along the east side of ground - either heading north from the Baker Street/Marylebone Road/Dorset Square area, or south from Swiss Cottage and St John's Wood. Buses 139 and 189 stop near the south west corner of the ground in Lisson Grove, heading north from Baker Street/Marylebone Road/Dorset Square area or south from West Hampstead, Cricklewood and Brent Cross. Service 274 stops near the north end of Regents Park heading north from Baker Street or west from Camden.

Once at Lords, access is via the East Gate, off st John's Wood Road. Tell the gatekeeper that you are with HASSRA. The North Gate off Wellington Road closes at 1800 hrs. You are not entitled to access any other part of the ground. The Indoor School is at the southern end. The net that we are using will be displayed on the monitor in the reception area of The Indoor School, as this varies from week to week.

Dress Code

Players are required to wear a white shirt and white flannels. Dark-soled trainers, or those with spikes are not allowed. Track-suits and shorts are also not to be worn in the nets. You may not be permitted to play if you breach the dress code.

Kit

The club will provide bats, balls, pads, gloves and protective boxes. A helmet can be made available on request. You should also bring your own washing gear.

Changing Facilities

Changing rooms are available for use, with showers. The cost of hiring a locker is 20p and requires a 20p coin.

Safety at the Nets

Neither the club nor The Indoor School are responsible for lost or stolen property, or any injury incurred.

The following is the MCC policy as laid down by the ECB : 'A young player (up to the age of 18) should not be allowed to bat or stand up to the stumps when keeping wicket without a helmet (with a faceguard) against a hard ball'.

Cricket equipment should not be left in the nets, nor should any batsman pad up in the nets.

Visitors are asked not to practice outside the nets.

Mobile phones should be switched off in the netting area.

Keep your eye on the batsman at all times to minimise the chance of injury.
